one, Mr. Big Pack – standing there in the aisle, there he was,
unaware that his fecal-loaded backpack was blocking the way
of anyone who wanted to get around him, namely me.
Number 2, Mr. Spread Legs – sitting there, taking up 2 seats,
when perhaps I or someone else might wanna sit.
I say let us bring back public burnings, guillotinings…what have you.
PENNIES Found five of ‘em up in the VALENCIA AND 16TH STREET area
of THE MISSION this morning…also a quarter, on Guerrero…
was up there to check on my man FEISAL, who wasn’t in.
Gonna go back to my hotel room in THE TENDERLOIN
and get empty cans and bottles to recycle…
I do believe I’ll then have enough for a can of STEEL RESERVE, at Tenderloin prices.
(That is, less expensive than in The Mission.)

STARPLANE’S NEW SCORES #03

…was quite ready to dispense another installment of this
but became distracted and concerned about a call from b
about my behavior in the environs of one of her recent jobs…
we needn’t particularly go into details…I’d been drinking and took some offense
at something the security guard there asked me to do…
it was after hours at this place, down on the Peninsula,
at an animation company of some repute,
and I was just chillin’ my heels, feet up, waiting for b to be done with her work,
when the guard asked me to put my feet down…a reasonable enough request, I guess,
but at the time I just didn’t think it was necessary…
and having flip flops on my feet, as well,
probably didn’t quite go down too well with the man…
and, mind you, my feet were resting on my boom box, not on the actual precious table…
so, anyway, one thing led to another, the upshot being that b received a call
informing her she’d no longer be welcome at this particular animation company.
She was getting thirty bucks an hour for two hours of work…
she said something along the lines of me wanting to make her starve,
which is quite an exaggeration, a hyperbole…
I offered her my apology…and I really don’t think this will be repercussing
upon future work situations…as long as she doesn’t bring me around…
so that is that…also, this, something like this,
has happened before, once in Oakland, another time in Sausalito –
at that location, I returned at another time and comported myself well enough
so that it was okay for me to be there…b and I agreed that it’s probably better
for me to just drop her off and leave her job site
then return to pick her up, thereby avoiding occasions like these
when my “bad behavior” could reflect on her and her money…
and, in pleasanter matters, tonight there’s the opening of a group art show called
CLOUD CUCKOO LAND at the MIMI BARR GALLERY
on 16th between Guerrero and Valencia; and,
THE SAN FRANCISCO MIME TROUPE will be having the start of their annual summer season in DOLORES PARK on July 3rd to the 5th;
and, as b notified me, L. RON HUBBARD extends his influence from beyond
with some sort of cash-to-the-winners contest involving collaborations
between artists and writers…I know some visual artists, I guess, who I could work with…
I like it when writers influence those working in other media…most lately,
I directed b’s attention to anthologies of NICK FURY comic books from MARVEL
first published in the Sixties, these available at AL’S COMICS on GUERRERO near 16TH,
around the corner from the abovementioned Mimi Barr venue –
a good harmony between text and picture…also nice, recently: the SPAIN poster
for that Mime Troupe show – saw this at VALENCIA STREET BOOKS
on (duh) Valencia between 16th and 17th. I wouldn’t mind some artwork
to go along with these Starplane lines – anyone interested in collaborating?
And now, it is Coors time…there should be no problem whatsoever,
so long as I stay away from any Peninsula animation companies, that is…
I’m nothing but easy to get along with, as everyone knows.

STARPLANE’S REVENGE #37 Page 1 of 4

JACK:

This installment of this blog is taking the form of a letter to you…
thanks again for the Irish Coffee last night at the Shannon Arms…
enjoyed our time together there, the conversation…
but I’m sorry that I couldn’t hear the music I paid for due to the loudness
of the folks talking at the bar…anyway, one thing I intend to get done
in this letter is an analysis of just how I spent the forty-eight dollars
and fifty cents I received on the 15th, two days ago…not a bit of it is left…
I recall making a decision at some point yesterday to just spend it all…
I don’t need to have spending money, necessarily, but it’s nice to have it…real nice.
So let us get down to the details:

First, had to give BANK OF AMERICA five-and-a-half bucks
as my monthly fee for having a checking account.
Then it was up to MACY’S UNION SQUARE in search of ARAMIS 900,
a spray bottle of that cologne…I checked on the INTERNET
and thought that there was a small bottle of the fragrance
for about thirty bucks…got to the store early and decided to go over to VESUVIO
for a coffee – haven’t been there in a while…
woulda gone for a BOHEMIAN COFFEE –
coffee and amaretto and brandy –
but I wanted to conserve my cash…
so up to the fabled bar I went –
learned from the bartender the proportions –
two “pounds” each of the amaretto and brandy –
he said a “pound” in barkeeping terms
was a pour of the alcohol for a count of one…
not necessarily an exact science, the making of drinks…
so I had that coffee for a buck, and,
feeling just a little cash rich, gave a buck tip to boot…
a little celebration – hadn’t been up to Vesuvio in a while
and figured I’d be a big spender…
so that’s a total of seven-and-a-half bucks up to that point,
leaving me with 41…then it was back down
to THE TENDERLOIN…bought a two dollar bottle of BOSS,
the fragrance, in a little bottle at a corner market
near THE JEFFERSON HOTEL…
then lunch with b at THE GREEN RIVER,
a little Chinese restaurant on EDDY
on the way to VAN NESS that I’d noticed but had never eaten at…
I helped with the tip, giving b a buck –
she paid for the meal…

there at Green River, on Eddy –
and by Green River
I don’t mean the Creedence Clearwater Revival song,
tho’ it’d be nice if that was jammin’ up in there
and not the loud TV cartoon that was on…
then, after parting from b, got a BUDWEISER
for a dollar in a can at a corner market…
this brought the total expenditure to eleven-fifty, 37 bucks left…
next purchase, a 100 milliliter bottle of JACK DANIEL’S
at a corner market…the counter guy sold it
for a penny less than the four-eleven it costs…
new total: 33 bucks and 90 cents…
then off to the SAN FRANCISCO PUBLIC LIBRARY MAIN BRANCH –
copied two photos from a book about the ALIAS television series
for a quarter each…about this time –
to show you that I can be very precise
about keeping correct totals of my money –
I did the numbers and realized the balance was off by a dollar…
this caused me no little consternation…
I wanted to get the correct number, to the penny…
at some point I realized I hadn’t figured in the buck for that can of beer
(which I was calling “Badweiser”,
since that’s the way it was spelled on the Green River menu…
and also since I’ve had so little alcohol in the past three months
and had put drink in the “Bad” category, pretty much).
So…where were we?
After those two copies, made four more for sixty cents –
pages of a JERRY GARCIA interview
from a book from the early Seventies.
(The previous two Alias photo copies for 25 cents each
was a mistake on the library copy machine’s part –
they shoulda been 15 cents each.)
Now…that brought the new total to 32 and 80…
didn’t spend any more money
until I bought an 85 cent can of COCA-COLA
at the MAGIC DONUTS 24-hour place at 20th AND MISSION
near b’s yoga studio – was picking her up there…
31 and 95 left.
Next day, yesterday, spent a lot at THE BROWN JUG SALOON,
a neighborhood bar a half a block down from the hotel…
in the course of about an hour, bought three beers at two bucks each,
including a dollar tip for the first one –

…that’s seven bucks subtracted from the previous total, leaving 24 and 95…
but, at this point, my accounting practices began to be a bit questionable…about this time, under the influence of beer and music, figured that the money was being well spent, and to heck with the precision. It is not a case that I can’t be precise to the penny if necessary – many, many times in LOS ANGELES I kept running totals like this of coinage spent and always figured it to the prettiest penny…so, here’s the song list of what I played…first set of seven songs cost 2 dollars and went like this:

So to make this matter shorter…stopped being really precise about the exact money about this time, as I said before…after leaving the Brown Jug I made another Jack Daniel’s purchase – twice as much as before, 200 milliliters, for six-and-a-half dollars…I noted then that I still had 25 bucks and 80 cents after that buy…not sure if that was the actual total, but it was close…I bothered to note that exact amount, so I guess it was right, tho’ it doesn’t seem like it now…and now, a day after, I am really wondering just where that twenty-five bucks went…then, hung out for a coupla hours with this guy I met at the bus stop – that’s another long letter in itself – won’t go into it now…he was looking for a place to donate blood…

…we went around downtown a bit looking for locations we were told about or found in the phone book…parted company with him when he was on his way to the Potrero Hill area to donate sperm for 40 bucks – really…I gave him three quarters for cigarettes, so that’s about another dollar…I also spent about a dollar for that hour-long audio cassette that I gave you, filled with FM radio music…and I am really wondering just where that twenty bucks and more went…it’s not that if I really made the effort I couldn’t have kept precise track…it’s just that I decided not to…it wasn’t all the alcohol I was drinking either…I am thinking back…I also spent a buck on 10 copies of a page of something I typed up at the drop-in center on Eddy near the hotel I often go to…and bought a 50 cent blank floppy disc…but – where’s that twenty plus? I mean, it’s a lot of money…I wasn’t just giving it away, despite all that whiskey I had…didn’t buy anything as far as I recall…it’s really pretty strange, that missing money…now that I am putting it down on paper I am a little more concerned about it than I had been…but just a little…I feel, I am pretty sure, that I just didn’t lose it stupidly, drunkenly…musta gone for some worthy purpose, just don’t recall what it was…other notes from this time:

01. Was really enjoying the cover of the Scorpions CD featured in the Brown Jug jukebox – the CD is called Berliner Philharmonic and shows a giant dinosaur, like a T. Rex, wearing fancy jewelry.
02. The first CD in the jukebox was a Merle Haggard one…didn’t know the songs and was unsure about picking any, so I didn’t – “Pancho and Lefty” or “Big City” might be okay.
02. There’s a “thought I was a hillbilly” comment by Mick Jagger in “Dead Flowers” –the live version from the album Stripped.
04. Wrote out lines of iambic pentameter during the Brown Jug time:
“Garcia’s vocals, Brown Jug, deuce bucks brew.”
“This third beer, bro’, yeah, two-five-eighty left.”
“They sho’ ain’t mathematikal enuff.”
“It’s Jimi, winding, Mary, la la la.”
05. Enjoyed the line from “Down on the Corner:
“You don’t need a penny/just to hang around.”

in particular, from 1962…I mean, uh, rather, 1963…

of Fitz Hugh Ludlow, I will be considering other fun matters…

under twenty bucks, and plenty of real good stuff there.”

maybe it’s online but who needs a computer
when you’ve got paper free on every corner, just about?”

lately it occurs to me that
it can be a New York thing, I suppose…
great words, great meanings, that sort of thing.
But I am considering elsewise:
let us just apply a small amount of Aramis,
a brief spray of it,
and get on with the true business
and pleasure of this…consider:

…researching to project developments
intended to unite and to inform
those parties who have interest in this form.
Improvements in coordinated parts
are to be found right here for those involved.
Transparency’s increased, response is quick,
providing systematic relevance…

And furthermore,
it’s available in at least a coupla different bottles…
you might do a little bit of your own research
to determine just exactly what you want…
so, please take a deep breath or three…
got some tracks by the Richer Third
comin’ up before you know it, soon…
and also in the mix, a bit of Parchman Farm,
and Subarachnoid Space,
and the Psychic Paramount…
how’s that for some sound?

in order to be not so contemporary…
maybe a spinning of “Today’s the Day”,

…it is me giving out the money, see…
this isn’t for the insufferable among us, to be sure…
I am transmitting this to many…
like those who wait outside the library
for many minutes before it opens mornings…
ten thousand breaths and counting
hereabouts from them…
see here the results of navigation…
ten thousand things to consider…
you know, I’d like any of those
who are previewing a movie
about white folks in Singapore in 1942,
in Japanese captivity, any of those previewers,
to consider something else –
some relevant iambic pentameters, let’s say…
saw a recent video myself this week –
I’ve not been seeing many movies lately
but was drawn to that one –
plenty of references
of iambic pentameter in it,
which I found very interesting…
a sample line: “…I never saw true beauty ‘til this night…”
Actually, to be specific,
I wasn’t sure if the line was that
or one slightly different:
“…for I ne’er saw true beauty ‘til this night…”
a slight but significant difference,
in terms of the poetry of the language,
the specific reading of those certain words…
but, to continue along the main line
of this discourse: was visiting the library,
and I wasn’t one of the Bad, Sad, and Mad,
as Nicole Person writes
in the current issue of Voice of the New Earth…
no, I was in a good mood
and wasn’t upset when a guy
cut in front of me in the check-out –
I’ve been taking steps
to be in that state where no offense
is taken at slights – no library rage for me…
can’t say I have always been that way…
not much drama in my life, see,
and that is just the way I want it to be…

okay, this is pretty good enough for now,

it’s to be trusted there’s enough new material here for you…
